CARVING: This is a masterfully hand carved jade piece depicting the Amitabha or Amida Buddha's head. The details of the carving are absolutely exquisite. The master jade carver has used matte style hand carving, which is a hand carving style that preserves some of the rustic texture of the stone, yet giving the piece a refined look. Matte hand carving can only be applied to the highest quality jade.

CARVING PROCESS: The hand carving is performed by a master carver and takes weeks of work. The master carver first designs the artwork by taking account the natural jade features. In this case, the master carver wanted to emphasize the green hues in the stone. If you look at the piece, the hand carving art is specifically formulated to emphasize the strong green hues.
