NATURAL JADE: This is a high grade jadeite jade pendant. It is exquisitely hand carved. It is is one of a kind! The pendant is completely natural jade, un-dyed, and in its natural form.
CARVING: This pendant is hand carved in the form of the Monkey King (Sun Wu Kong). He is depicted with his golden staff and armor facing into the great majestic mountains, symbolizing his strength. The Monkey King represents resistance, longing for freedom, and individualistic heroism. He is often viewed as a protector because of his protagonist role in the novel "Journey to the West" where he fights evil and protects his master from harm. The Monkey King represents wit, cleverness, rebellion, defiance, and spiritual transformation.
CARVING PROCESS: The hand carving is performed by a master carver and takes weeks of work. The master carver first designs the artwork by taking account the natural jade features. In this case, the master carver wanted to emphasize the green hues in the stone. If you look at the piece, the hand carving art is specifically formulated to emphasize the green tones. This piece is custom artwork that is designed based on the stone. This means there is only one piece like this in the world!
The hand carving is very detailed where the master carver's work is so exquisite that even small features of the monkey king. This is known as "Toothpick" Hand Carving - meaning the carving is so detailed it is being carved and detailed one little dot at a time. This is a premium level type of hand carving and takes a monumental effort by the master carver to perform. The carving is so detailed you can see the Monkey King's armor.
